FAQ
It's perfectly natural to have lots of questions. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions but feel free to contact us if you have any other wonderings.
When are the classes?
Check out our full class timetable here.
Where are you based?
28B Nelson Street, Kilmarnock KA1 1BA. We are the top floor of the Sallys Beauty building. When you look at the building you will see a blue door on the left hand side - that is us!
How much are the classes?
Our classes run in 6 week blocks. Our burlesque block is £30 and our pole dancing block is £60. We offer discounts for individuals who book more than one class per week.
How do I book?
Visit our 'Book' section on the website to book your first block. Those currently booked on a block get the option to keep their space. On week 4 of your block you will be asked if you would like to stay on. Monies for the following block are due paid during week 5 and can be paid via Paypal, bank transfer or cash in the studio. Once you have attended your first block you will be able to book classes face to face, rather than use the website.
What if I can't make my class?
When you book your space that day/time is your class - unfortunately as we limit the numbers in the classes to maximize learning, it is not possible chop and change your time slot. We are aware our system doesn't offer great flexibility but we find it offers a very unique spirit of friendship when everyone gets to know their class mates. Comradery is very important to us at PB.
I am feeling really nervous, what can I expect?
Don’t worry its completely natural. Most women feel nervous for their first class, so the instructors and the other students know exactly how you feel. Our classes are very small with 10 people max in the pole classes and 15 in the burlesque. So many of our students say PB has increased their self esteem and confidence, so it's worth pushing yourself out your comfort zone.
Why are you a women only studio?
PB was established in 2009. What made it thrive was the community spirit it was built around. Women empowering women. Building self esteem and confidence in our students has always been our key objective at PB, and we do this through pole and burlesque. Due to the intimate nature of our classes we find being a women only, single sex, studio is the best way to achieve this. We regularly check in with our students to see if this is something they still want, and it is, therefore we continue to be a women only studio.
Is there an age limit?
At PB as long as you are 18+ years old you are very welcome. We have women of all ages, shapes and fitness levels.
What do I wear?
Pole – we are usually in our bare feet, soft dance shoes or even socks. Shorts and vest tops are the best option (bare skin helps us grip the pole) but if you feel uncomfortable in shorts ¾ length trousers / leggings can be worn for the first few blocks.
Burlesque – if you are comfortable in small dance heels please feel free to wear them, they can help you find you strut. Remember it is just a bit of fun so if your not comfortable in heels just wear pumps or bare feet.
Do I need to be fit to take part?
Pole - our levels are made up to include moves that everyone can do regardless of their fitness level. Obviously those who are physically fit might find some aspects easier than those who are not, but the more you come along to the classes the easier all the moves will become.
Burlesque – typically our burlesque classes are less physically demanding than pole. The more effort you put in the more of a workout you get but if your just coming along to have fun and learn how to ‘strut your stuff’ that’s all good to.
How much pole time will I get?
We have a beautiful, spacious studio with 11 poles and with a maximum of 10 ladies per class you will have a pole to yourself.
Why can't I wear jewellery?
Jewellery can scratch the chrome on the poles. It is also dangerous and has the potential to get caught and cause injury.
Why can't I use moisturiser / body lotion prior to class?
It will make you slippy and the pole greasy, which can be frustrating and dangerous. There are pole specific lotions and grips you can buy to help moisturise your skin without making you slippy. Please ask in class.
